Each year I love adding new books to my "25 Days of Christmas Books" countdown. This year I received four NEW books to read to my children and I'm excited to share them with you. If you haven't started this tradition in your life, you definitely should think about it. You can wrap each book or simply put each book in a bag with tissue paper. Each day your kids can reveal the new book. Then you can read your new book to your family. It is especially fun if the books are new. Here are four new "must have" books for you to add to your bookshelf.
CHRISTMAS EVE
by Annie Auerbach
About:
Share all the excitement and joy of Christmas with this adorable board book that’s filled with charming text and colorful illustrations. Rhyming text helps build the anticipation while little ones are also encouraged to look for special Christmas touches hidden on the pages. There are squirrels to spot, ornaments to identify, and cookies to find. Wait a minute…is that Santa flying overhead? Kids can find him, too! Parents and kids alike will enjoy this book that captures the magic of this beautiful holiday. (Ages 1–4)
In Emilee's opinion:
This is a great book to read on Christmas Eves to get your children excited for the following day. I especially loved spotting new friends. It helped us appreciate the pictures and we tried to find other items on each page. It was a great book for my two year old and she found each item.
SANTA'S SLEIGH
by Annie Auerbach; illustrations by Roberta Pagnoni
About:
Here comes Santa Claus! Share the story of Santa’s epic sleigh ride with your little ones this Christmas season. Children will get excited when they see Santa feeding his reindeer, working on the sleigh with his elves, packing up all the gifts for girls and boys, and taking off into the snowy night. Hold on tight, though—it’s going to be a bumpy ride! Shaped just like Santa’s sleigh, this book is a wonderful way to share the joy of the season with little ones getting ready for Santa’s arrival. (Ages 2–5)
In Emilee's opinion:
This was another wonderful Christmas book by Annie Auerbach. We loved answering the questions on each page. Will Santa get the help he needs to deliver all of the presents to the kids? Who will help him? Also, I loved the illustrations and the simple story of Santa's sleigh ride. Perfect addition to our bookshelf.
MUSICAL CHRISTMAS TREE
Illustrated by Patricia Regan
About:
Kids will love this enchanting book that plays music and even doubles as a Christmas tree! This unique search-and-find Christmas book is even easier to put up than a real Christmas tree! Press the button to hear the Jingle Bells melody and turn it off whenever you want—replaceable batteries are included. The story takes place at Santa’s house in the North Pole, where children will search to find lots of different things in each festive spread. Look for decorations on the tree, different types of cookies baking in Mrs. Claus’s kitchen, robots and dolls to find in the workshop, and more. When you’re done reading, use the Velcro tabs to join the covers together and make the tree stand upright. Makes a charming Christmas decoration. (Ages 3+ years)
In Emilee's opinion:
This tree shaped book was adorable And it was fun to turn each page. This book had things for children to find on each page. There were minimal words so it was perfect for my two year old who has an small attention span. The song was played over and over again so if music bothers you then this isn't the right book for you. But, for me, I loved hearing the song over and over again. I also loved that you could stand the book up and make the tree stand upright. I thought this book was fantastic!
SANTA'S WORKSHOP
Illustrated by Michelle Todd
About:
Children will thoroughly enjoy this kit that lets them act out all of Santa’s busy days leading up to Christmas. Kids can build their very own 3-level model of Santa’s Workshop (follow the handy steps on the inside flaps of the folder), and complete this magical setting with an illustrated floor mat, lots of stand-up pieces (including a girl and boy elf, Rudolph, Mrs. Claus, and Santa himself), and more. The kit also includes Rudolph Saves the Day, a beguiling illustrated story book that takes place at the North Pole. It’s Christmas Eve, and there’s just one day left before Santa delivers toys to every girl and boy around the world. But now Santa has the flu! Is there any way to save Christmas? (Ages 3 and up)
In Emilee's opinion:
I saved my favorite Christmas book till the end. Santa's Workshop included a book called Rudolph Saves the day, a workshop model, stand up pieces and a floor mat. We decided that we would use Santa's Workshop as an advent calendar this year to countdown till Christmas. There are 24 pieces so we will choose one piece a day to stand up on the floor mat and model. And if you wanted 25 pieces, you could build the workshop model on the first day. The story was adorable. How will Rudolph save the day? What will he do? Will Santa feel better so he can deliver the gifts to everyone before Christmas Day? Well, you will need to read the cute story to find out. I also loved the illustrations. Well done!
