About the author:
Lynn G. Robbins was sustained to the Presidency of the Seventy on April 5, 2014. He became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy on april 1, 2000. Prior to that, he was a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy for three years. Elder Robbins served a full-time mission in Argentina and later served as president of the Uruguay Montevideo Mission.
Elder Robbins received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University and an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Management. He was one of the founders of Franklin Quest (later Franklin Covey). Elder Robbins and his wife, Jan, are the parents of seven children and eighteen grandchildren.
In my opinion:
Love is a choice had a profound and insightful perspective on marriage. The main focus was on responsibility of each partner and how one can improve the situation and be happy. It was also about changing oneself and not trying to change your spouse. This book was exactly what I needed to read and I'm sure each of us would agree as well. We aren't perfect people but we are always striving to become better as Heavenly Father has asked us to do.
Of course, Jesus Christ was our perfect example on how to treat others with kindness. Robbins also had a section on a variety of attributes and what the Lord's way was vs the wrong way. So, if you think your spouse is the cause of your problems, think again and go through the list for yourself. We can only change ourselves. We are 100% responsible for our actions.
Is happiness a choice? Absolutely! Robbins said, "We have far more control over happiness than we sometimes think we do. How we see life's glass-half-full or half-empty- is primarily a choice. It is a matter of attitude more than of circumstance, as we discover in the story of Nephi, Laman, and Lemuel in the Book of Mormon."
Overall, I definitely recommend Love is a choice not only to improve yourself but also to make your marriage and family stronger in the end. I'm grateful I took the time to read this book because there were a lot of insightful advice on love and self reliance.
