Are you looking for an uplifting spiritual book? Well, here is a fabulous book called,
To My Friends
by Jeffrey R. Holland
About: "If you need a burden lifted, I want you to imagine I am in a personal, private, closed-door chat with you. I want to help you if I can." With those words, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland invites every reader of his latest book to become a friend, to receive instruction and encouragement, counsel and comfort. Elder Holland addresses these powerful messages "to my friends who love the Lord," "to my friends who want to change," "to my friends who face opposition," and more. Each chapter begins with a beautifully designed quotation to help convey the message in an artistic way, making the book a lovely gift for friends to share. Throughout, Elder Holland's powerful witness of the Savior shines through, for, as he writes, "I am grateful for the greatest friend any of us could ever have, in time or eternity, the Lord Jesus Christ."

I am
reviewing To My Friends by Elder
Jeffrey R. Holland. First off, I love
Elder Holland! His testimony is bold and sincere, while making you feel like he
understands what you may be facing. He quotes, "If you need a burden
lifted, I want you to imagine I am in a personal, private, closed-door chat
with you. I want to help you if I can." With those words, Elder Jeffrey R.
Holland invites every reader to become a friend, to receive instruction and
encouragement, counsel and comfort. Elder Holland addresses these powerful
messages "to my friends who love the Lord," "to my friends who
want to change," "to my friends of other faiths," and more.
One of
my personal favorite chapters is “to my friends who face opposition.” He
compares the Liberty Jail experience that Joseph Smith faced to a
prison-temple. He says, “Every one of us, in one way or another, great or
small, dramatic or incidental, is going to spend a little time in Liberty Jail
– spiritually speaking. We will face things we do not want to face for reasons
that may not have been our fault. Indeed we may face difficult circumstances
for reasons that were absolutely right and proper, reasons that came because we
were trying to keep the commandments of the Lord.” He goes on to explain that
through the Atonement, God can turn the unfair and debilitating prisons of our
lives into temples – or at least into a circumstance that can bring comfort,
revelation, divine companionship, and necessary experience to contribute to our
education in mortality and our exaltation in eternity. This is just one example
from the many wonderful chapters in this book!
I
recommend this book to all! There is at least one chapter for everybody. I also
liked how I can apply some chapters to help those around me with their personal
trials. This is one book truly worth adding to your LDS library!
