Here is another fabulous book that you will want to read.
It is called,
How do I know if I know
by John Bytheway
About:
It's spiritual gut-check time! The mission age has been lowered, and now more than ever, young people are asking themselves important questions:
- How do I know if I really have a testimony?
- Am I ready to serve a mission?
- What does the Spirit feel like?
As you read, you may discover that your testimony is stronger than you thought, and you'll also become more excited and motivated to let your light shine!
About the Author:
JOHN BYTHEWAY served a mission to the Philippines and later graduated from Brigham Young University. He has a master’s degree in religious education and is a part-time instructor at the BYU Salt Lake Center. John is the author of many bestselling books, audio talks, and DVDs, including How to Be an Extraordinary Teen; Life Rocks; and his first children’s picture book, The Sacrament. He and his wife, Kimberly, have six children.
In my opinion:
My kids and I enjoy listening to John Bytheway because he is
humorous, tells interesting stories, and teaches the gospel in a fun way. I was
very excited to read his newest book, “How Do I Know If I Know.” This book
answers questions such as “How do I know if I really have a testimony” or “What
does the Spirit feel like.” I like the
part of the book when Bytheway describes how a testimony is like a light with a
dimmer switch that makes possible an almost infinite number of settings between
total light and total darkness. Just as there are levels of light, there are
levels of testimony as well. I learned that our dimmer switch draws energy from
four different sources or areas. He
challenges the readers to identify these sources in your life, which will help
our testimonies to grow brighter. He explains this by suggesting that we
“F.E..E.L” the truthfulness of the gospel and everyone is enlightened in
different ways; through Feelings, Experiences, Evidences, and/or Logic .
Personally, I related most to wire #1: Feelings. I have
learned that my testimony grows through feelings of peace, joy, and calmness
when I hear a conference talk, read scriptures or am making good decisions. On
the other hand, I have a friend who relates more to logic or reason when it
comes to gaining a testimony. John Bythway explains each of these sources in a
simple, yet interesting way. At the end of each chapter, the author adds “more
light on the subject” with talks and conference addresses, which I appreciated
as a great addition. I loved this book and was intrigued by the wonderful
stories. Reading this motivated me to
increase my personal testimony and teach my kids about knowing if they
know. I highly recommend reading this
book!
