New from Barron’s: Sticker challenges, dinosaur coloring adventures and amazing activity books for children

I’ve been reviewing books from Barron’s Educational Series for quite awhile now and haven’t been disappointed. Today, I have four amazing adventure books just for children. They include the Ultimate Dot-To-Dot Minecraft, A-Maze-ing Animals, Animetrics and Dinosauria. Each one was unique, exciting and fun for my six year old.

About:

Calling all Minecraft devotees: this exceptional collection of dot-to-dot scenes from the world of Minecraft awaits you! Puzzle addicts and Minecraft fans of all ages will enjoy these 40 complex, challenging dot-to-dot creations that range from grand structures built in Creative Mode to familiar scenes from the game played in Survival Mode, and everything in between. Every puzzle is specifically designed to absorb, entertain, and captivate you for hours. Simple color coding offers hints about what the finished image may look like and gets you excited about making lots more connections. When you’re done, you can color the completed images to create a truly one-of-a-kind Minecraft experience. (Ages 8 and up)

In Emilee’s opinion:

The Ultimate Dot-to-Dot: Minecraft included 40 amazing puzzles for your little Minecraft lover. It was perfect for my son who loves Minecraft and dot to dot activities. I loved that it was challenging and fun. The book also included solutions to the puzzles so if your child is stuck, he/she could get a sneak peak of the finished product. Dr. Gareth Moore is also the author of a wide range of brain-training and puzzle books for children and adults. It thought it was clever and fun for my six year old son.

About:

Find 50 Fun, colorful cartoons-within-a-maze from the designer of the world’s largest hand-drawn maze and internationally-acclaimed creator of MazeToon! Mazes are a great way to increase hand-eye coordination, bolster problem-solving skills, sharpen reasoning, and more. You’ll get all that and then some with these 50 colorfully illustrated mazes that feature fully solvable characters, cartoon elements, and imaginative creatures that figure prominently along every start-to-finish path. Themed, integrated animal illustrations (set within the mazes) are fun, playful, and perfect for big kids and grown-ups too. Besides navigating the usual twists and turns of a traditional maze path, puzzle-solvers will have to navigate through crazy cartoon features, like a dinosaur’s mouth, a bat’s wings, a vulture’s beak, a frog’s tongue, and more. There are dozens of dead ends, illusions, twists and turns that increase with the difficulty level. It’s not just thoroughly entertaining…it’s absolutely A-MAZE-ING! (Ages 9 and up)

In Emilee’s opinion:

In this book, you will find 50 animal mazes. This book also had different levels from 1-5. My son got frustrated when he started a level 3 maze. But, I told him to start at the beginning of the book and once he figured out the mazes, he could move on to the next level. The mazes were different than anything I’ve ever seen before so it was fun to move around different paths. The author, Joe Wos even gave us some tips, “Take your time. Try not to get frustrated. If you get stumped on a maze, take a break and come back to it later.” Also, there were solutions at the end of the book so if you got stumped, you could get a sneak peak. The mazes were well thought out and pretty A-Maze-Ing if you ask me. I definitely recommend this book especially on long car rides or doctor appointments (we have a lot of them).

About:

Are you ready for a new, exciting challenge that will take your observation skills and artistic pursuits to a whole new level? Then Animetrics is for you. Inside the pages of this innovative book, you’ll discover 15 animal portraits to complete with geometric sticker shapes. The numbered shapes on each page can be filled with the corresponding stickers to create sophisticated works of art that will amaze and astound you. Ten pages of sticker shapes at the back of the book lead you on a quest to complete gorgeous portraits of animals ranging from lions to birds and beyond. Intricate, complex, and absorbing, you’ll spend hours piecing together these sticker puzzles and creating something beautiful and unforgettable.

In Emilee’s opinion:

Animetrics was also another fun activity book for children of all ages. If your child loves stickers then this book is perfect. In this book you get to create 12 animal themed works of art using stickers. I loved all of the different shapes and included a preview image of each animal at the back of the paper section of the book. This book was designed well and perfect for long trips or doctor/dentist appointments. It was a better solution than placing my child in front of the television set. I definitely recommend this book.

About:

Enter a prehistoric landscape filled with dinosaurs that you can bring to life with color! Dinosaur lovers of all ages, get ready to rejoice! This coloring book will offer you hours of coloring fun that will help you relax, unwind, and learn some exciting new things. Enter a landscape populated by dozens of dinosaurs, just waiting to leap off the page as you bring them to life with color. Illustrated by popular author Claire Scully (who co-illustrated our bestselling title, The Menagerie), Dinosauria is filled with striking portraits of many different types of creatures to color and complete. Lose yourself in this prehistoric world as you encounter each glorious beast, including the Stegosaurus, Diplodocus, Spinosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and many others. Each portrait is also accompanied by fascinating facts about these creatures. Includes perforated pages.

In Emilee’s opinion:

Dinosauria was a great book to color amazing creatures. Children can get creative and color Brachiosaurus blue or purple. It is really up to the child’s imagination.  Also, each animal included fascinating facts, where and when it lived, how it got its name and its size and diet. I loved flipping through each page and reading about each dinosaur. That was fascinating to me. And each page told us how to pronounce each dinosaur (thank goodness). So, if you love coloring itty bitty parts, you will love coloring each of these dinosaurs.
