In Emilee’s opinion:
It didn’t surprise me that I enjoyed L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables because I’ve been a fan of Anne of Green Gables since I could remember. The movie was 90 minutes long and I wished it was longer. I’m sure there will be a sequel with the same characters. Fingers crossed! It focused on the arrival of Anne Shirley and the setbacks that Matthew and his sister Marilla had to keep her there permanently. Of course, they wanted a boy in the beginning and as we know Matthew needed to convince Marilla to keep Anne. I loved the part when they were going to give her away but Marilla felt the loss. I felt her pain at that moment. Anne also met her dear “bosom friend” Diana who was sweet and loving just like the original character. Gilbert was introduced as well and their love hate relationship began. Overall, I thought the characters were perfect. I thought Ella Ballentine was the perfect Anne Shirley because she played the part as the precocious little Anne we know. And it was fun to see Martin Sheen as Matthew. He was the loving brother who took Anne in even though they were expecting a little boy. I grew attached to most of the characters except Gilbert. I mean who doesn’t love the original Gilbert?
Overall, I was pleased with the adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. It was delightful and fun to watch.
